Northern Ireland’s Professional Snooker Player Mark Allen organised a Pro-Am last year called “The Mark Allen Classic”. The tournament is a charity event which ran from 17 June until 19 June 2017, the event was very popular the amount of support that Mark received from his fellow Professional and Amateur snooker players within the snooker community was amazing!! Supporters were allowed to watch the matches with an optional donation fee being paid at the door. The Mark Allen Classic raised over £3,500 last year, all of the proceeds that was raised was donated to a local charity the Northern Ireland Children’s Cancer Unit in Belfast.
Mark Allen does a lot of charity work, Mark recently allocated 2 logo spaces on his waistcoat in the Northern Ireland Open to support 2 local chairties called Welcome Belfast which is a homeless charity to protect vulnerable people. The Cure4Cam charity was setup for a 12 year old boy who has a brain tumour. Mark lost in the second round to Tian Pengfei 4-3 despite the loss Mark very kindly decided to donate his £2,500 prize money between the two charities. What great gesture!! It’s a shame that more sport’s stars weren’t like him.
The charity event was so successful last year that Mark Allen is planning to run the Mark Allen Classic 2018 event this year! Mark would like to make this event bigger and better than it was last year with a possible 128 format compared to the pervious 64 format.
